A deal to bring the long-running dispute with Bilfinger Berger is expected within days, according to an article in the Edinburgh Evening News on 29 July: 'Mature divorce' on cards in Capital trams dispute A full breakdown of costs is due to be provided by the end of this week. While Bilfinger believe that these costs will be accurate, tie and the Council will doubtless be looking to negotiate the costs down to minimize the project over-spend. Hopefully the Council will see fit to publish these costs in order that transparency is maintained for the public. If an agreement is reached to proceed, then the perennial 'commercial confidentiality' argument which has obfuscated so much of the dispute to-date, would be irrelevant. Any decisions made regarding the extent of the over-spend to complete the entire line, or to scale back construction to minimize the over-spend should be made in the full light of public knowledge. |
