A spokesman for Jenners and House of Fraser was reported in The Herald on 12 December as urging the City of Edinburgh Council to re-think plans to close Princes Street to all traffic:
Although it has been suggested that Princes Street should be closed completely to all traffic for eight months to minimize disruption to businesses and the period of time for which the street remains closed, experience on Leith Walk / Constitution Street has shown that anticipated timescales are rarely met.
A representative of Essential Edinburgh was also quoted as saying that talks were still to be held over how best to minimize the impact - the talks will have to be organized fairly quickly, as the City of Edinburgh Council are meeting on 18 December to discuss traffic management plans for Princes Street.
