With no immediate prospect of a resolution to the dispute currently underway between Bilfinger Berger and tie, Princes Street remains closed with no Infraco works underway. Meanwhile, Bilfinger Berger are in the news in a number of other high-profile issues around the world. In the Sunday Herald of 1 March Bilfinger Berger was reported as having suffered an £80m loss: Revealed: Edinburgh tram firm lost £80m in Norwegian road project Councillor Steve Cardownie, who was last year appointed to a committee responsible for promoting the tram project, has suggested that there is a link between losses incurred elsewhere and Bilfinger Berger's demands for additional funds before commencing work on Princes Street. Bilfinger Berger are also being blamed for the collapse of Cologne's historical archive building as reported in the Scotsman on 5 March: Tram Firm under fire over Cologne building collapse Tunnelling work for the construction of Cologne's metro was blamed for the collapse, in which two people were feared dead. Finally, in Australia, the state government of New South Wales are set to tear up a contract with Bilfinger Berger worth £360m as reported in The Herald on 6 March: Australia makes threat to scrap £360m deal with tram contractor The dispute has arisen over continually rising costs on a road and tunnel project. |
