The news that the new Edinburgh trams are to be be diverted to Croydon was reported in an article in the Croydon Guardian on 9 September:

The article seems to assume that the Edinburgh trams will be used to provide additional capacity on their network, however the Edinburgh view is that the trams will only be stored at Croydon and undergo testing on their route, but not be used to carry passengers.
