Edinburgh blogger Fay Young writes about the potential for Leith Walk to be one of the grandest streets in Edinburgh. In her article: she draws some interesting parallels with Gateshead. The installation of Anthony Gormley's 'Angel of the North' sculpture was part of a deliberate campaign to regenerate the area. The Water of Leith has of course recently seen the installation of a series of Anthony Gormley sculptures. Fay had photographed some of the vacant properties in Leith in a recent visit to locate recent 'pop-up' enterprises. Quoting Newcastle's use of, 'art and local pride as the engine of growth and hope', Fay calls for a similar vision for Leith. |
